On July 27, 1953, the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed, bringing an end to the active fighting of the Korean War.
From 1950 to 1953, American Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines faced unimaginable challenges on the Korean Peninsula—harsh terrain, freezing winters, and intense combat—all in defense of freedom, democracy, and the ideals that continue to shape our nation and the world today. Their strength and resolve helped forge a lasting partnership with South Korea that endures to this day.
We remember, with deep respect and gratitude, the service of those who fought, the memory of those who never returned, and the strength of the families who carried on in their absence.
Their legacy lives on in every generation of Americans who raise their hand to serve. We have always remembered—and we always will.
