Teamwork under sail! ⚓️🌊 USS Constitution’s crew recently had the incredible opportunity to train alongside the crew of Mayflower II, strengthening our sailing skills and sharing maritime heritage. This hands-on experience helps us maintain our sailing competencies while supporting our fellow sailors in keeping history alive. During our time with Mayflower II, we assisted in the process of bending the sails—a procedure that fastens a sail to the spars. Mayflower II is a full-scale recreation of the original Mayflower, the historic ship that brought the Pilgrims to America in 1620. Built between 1955 and 1956 in Brixham, England, the ship was gifted to the United States by the people of the United Kingdom as a symbol of the historic ties between the two nations. Today, Mayflower II is operated by Plimoth Patuxet Museums and is docked in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where it serves as a living history museum.
