Hot Take - I enjoy eating Calico Bass (on occasion). Every once in a while I'll harvest a few to enjoy. I release easily 99.9% of all the Calico Bass I've ever caught in my lifetime. I remember a time when releasing them was in the minority, especially on the sport boats. Now the saltwater bass culture, at least in regards to Calicos has gone heavy on the Catch & Releare ethos much like it has with Largemouth Bass. I'm a firm believer that finding something closer to the middle allows everybody to win by keeping the big fish alive and harvesting a few small legal ones for the table occasionally.
