A new report from CFJ’s #TrialWatch, chreaa_malawi, and uschumanrightsclinic found that none of the interviewed women prosecuted for acts of self-defense in Malawi were given medical care at the time of arrest—even when visibly injured. Chimwemwe was one of them. She survived years of abuse and rape. When her abuser threatened to kill her child, she fought back. What followed? No treatment. No legal counsel. Her case is not an anomaly—it reflects a wider crisis. Malawi’s justice system needs to address trauma and context when prosecuting survivors. 🔗 Read the full report and hear more stories at the link in our bio. #WageJustice #JusticeForSurvivors #EndGBV
