'Twas a cold Melbourne morning when South Melbourne members were assigned to the divisional van.
While on a routine patrol, a curious kitten found an unlikely hiding spot for warmth and shelter - tucked beneath the bonnet of the van.
On return, the members spotted the stowaway mid-nap and brought her back to South Melbourne Police Station for further questioning. She provided a no-comment interview, as is her right.
Though many vied for her affection, Constable Wilcock stole her heart, earning both a cuddly companion and personal heater for the remainder of his shift.
There were many worthy name suggestions at the station but 'Divvy', named after the beloved Divisional Van, felt the most fitting.
As much as the members hoped she could stay, state law requires suspicious strays to be surrendered into the lawful custody of our friends at the City of Port Phillip. And so, with great reluctance, Divvy was handed over.
