The Premier League will no longer support Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign next season. After more than a decade backing the initiative – which saw players wear rainbow laces and captains don pride armbands – the league has now removed all references to the campaign from its website. Instead, it is launching its own LGBTQ+ inclusion campaign, tied to LGBT+ History Month and Football v Homophobia’s Month of Action. Stonewall called the move part of the “natural ebb and flow” of the campaign, “reflecting cultural and sporting changes”. “The Premier League has significantly helped to shift the dial,” a Stonewall spokesperson told Outsports. “While it’s still difficult for elite players to be openly LGBTQ, there are now some role models – and at grassroots level and in the stands, acceptance is growing.” #prideflag #rainbowlaces #premierleague #stonewall #leahwilliamson #lgbtqia
