In 1965, the Voting Rights Act became law. It was a landmark victory won by the blood, sweat, and sacrifice of the civil rights movement. Today, that legacy is under attack. The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act was just reintroduced into Congress to restore and protect those rights. While it is unlikely to have a majority for the passage of the legislation, we can keep the pressure on our elected officials to call out attempts to suppress our vote and defend our hard-won rights.
