“I am CAPABLE of winning. I DESERVE to win. I WILL win.”
Shortly after the Olympic Trials, I started battling uncertainty about the magnitude and expectations of the Olympic Games. After conveying this to coachzsion, he came up with a plan for me to say these affirmations to him everyday until I competed in Tokyo. The first week of doing it, I felt so silly and unsure. The words felt awkward and I didn’t believe them. I slowly started to buy into them and speak with genuine conviction. I found myself thinking the phrases to myself randomly throughout the day… during my warm up, brushing my teeth, walking my dog. Prior to entering the stadium for the Olympic final, we did this exercise one last time. With all the conviction in the world I said, “I’m capable of winning, I deserve to win, and I WILL WIN” 😈
