“I have always been interested in both engineering and law, but I assumed the two were at odds with each other. Through my engineering co-op terms, I was able to learn just how much the technical work at engineering firms is shaped by legal frameworks. From researching environmental regulations governing construction proposals to witnessing the process of licensing and patenting designs, I developed a deepened interest in the law, and an ambition to work at this intersection of law and engineering. I also participated in a number of research projects, including the development of a portable laser system to drastically reduce the cost of soil testing for rural communities, and took on various student group leadership positions. These opportunities allowed me to explore and find a career path perfectly suited to me.
