“My favourite part of being a student within the Faculty of Native Studies is the immense connection you will feel to your peers and professors. Regular events like tea and bannock, Cree bingo and other cultural activities definitely helped me establish a sense of community. I am also involved as a student intern for miyomahcihowin, an Indigenous student outreach initiative which uplifts the mental and physical health of Indigenous students on campus through cultural programming and community connection. My advice to prospective students coming into the Faculty of Native Studies is: don’t hesitate to reach out if you need help. I am passionate about mental health so I believe it’s important to maintain balance and there are many resources available that are specifically made for Indigenous students!” Hailey is a third-year Native Studies student from amiskwaciwaskahikan.
