“I am proud of where I come from, my culture and my identity. Being able to learn Cree alongside my formal education was emotionally challenging at times, but ultimately a blessing. My favourite part about the Native Studies faculty is the amount of support available to Indigenous students; from Indigenous-focused events to being able to print for free in the First Peoples’ House. If you are a high school student worried about university, I’d tell you that you can find your community and feel at home here.” Kenton is a second-year Drama student in the Faculty of Native Studies and part of the Indigenous Students’ Union. Kenton is a member of Bigstone Cree Nation, located in Wabasca, Alberta. Kenton has danced for nine years as a Métis jigger and regularly performs at events and facilitates workshops on Métis jigging history. #UAlberta
