Last March 2024, we learned about a call for artists by the elakhaalliance Alliance, titled "Envisioning a Future with Sea Otters on the Oregon Coast." The event aims to raise awareness about the reintroduction of sea otters to Oregon's ecosystem, where they have been absent for over 100 years. This absence has caused an increase in sea urchins, which are damaging the kelp forests vital to marine life. We submitted a framed 18x24-inch biomechanical artwork featuring a sea otter hunting sea urchins in a rocky shore landscape. The sketch was done with pen and colored digitally. Our work has been selected for the auction at the Yaquina Bay Yacht Club on September 28th, 2024, with proceeds supporting the cause.
