That’s right, on three of the 38 NASCAR Cup Series events each season feature a ‘backwards pit stop’ where the direction of pit road is mirrored from a typical race weekend. Watkins Glen, Mexico City, and the Chicago Street Course present a unique challenge to our pit crews.
With the right circumstances, our pit crews have pulled off four tire pit stops in just over 8 seconds on a normal pit stop. With backwards pit stops, pit stops will typically take over 10 seconds to complete.
This is due to factors such as:
• 💪🏻PRACTICE💪🏻 Less repetitions/practice with backwards stops
• 😬AWKWARDNESS😬 Awkwardness of the car coming in from the left vs. typically from the right
• ☝🏻POSITIONING☝🏻 On a forward pit stop, the jackman is in front of the tire carrier. They’re swapped on a backwards pit stop
