Nicola Sturgeon has discussed JK Rowling's views on transgender people in her new memoir 'Frankly'.
In the memoir, the former first minister of Scotland claims the Harry Potter author wearing a t-shirt branding her a 'destroyer of women's rights' was a turning point in the discourse over transgender rights.
Sturgeon says: “The tactics deployed by some, however sincere their views might have been, suggested there was another agenda at work. There are many examples I could cite, but the one that attracted most attention, not surprisingly, was JK Rowling’s donning of a T-shirt bearing the slogan ‘Sturgeon, destroyer of women’s rights’."
"I obviously don’t know what her intentions were but it seems blindingly obvious that a stunt like that was never going to elevate the debate or illuminate the issues at the heart of it.”
JK Rowling has responded by revealing she will be reviewing Sturgeon's memoir on her website.
