Czech Games Edition has issued a statement announcing all profits from its officially licensed Harry Potter board game 'Codenames: Back to Hogwarts' will be donated to charities supporting trans people.
The move follows backlash when the game was first announced over its association with the series’ author, J.K. Rowling, who is now notorious for her negative views towards the trans community.
In a statement posted on social media, the publisher said: “Over time, the harmful views of the story’s creator have escalated into harmful actions. We apologise unreservedly for not doing more to consider that possibility, and for subsequently announcing the game without taking preemptive actions to mitigate the pain it would cause.”
They added “trans rights are human rights”, and made it clear that 100% of the game profits will go to charitable causes that support the trans community. The company also acknowledged blocking critics during the backlash. What do you think of their response?
