The FBI’s 2024 hate crime data reveals that anti-LGBTQ+ incidents remain among the most commonly reported hate-motivated offences in the United States. Attacks based on sexual orientation accounted for 17.2% of total hate crimes, while those based on gender identity made up 4%. In total, there were 2,263 reported incidents targeting sexual orientation and 531 targeting gender identity. Race and ethnicity-related hate crimes continued to be the largest category, comprising 51.8% of all reported incidents, followed by religion-related cases. The most frequently reported types of hate crime were intimidation (around 4,915 incidents), vandalism (3,714), simple assault (3,255), and aggravated assault (1,807).
