The Center and our allies launched a legal intervention today to defend the Chuckwalla National Monument. Established in January 2025, Chuckwalla National Monument includes lands sacred to five groups of Native peoples that harbor wildlife the Center has defended for decades — including bighorn sheep, desert tortoises, desert kit foxes, and the monument’s namesake lizards. The monument designation was called for and celebrated by local Tribes, local and state governments, state and federal elected officials, veterans, 300 businesses, business groups and Chambers of Commerce, 370 scientists, and residents of surrounding communities. We worked hard in support of this monument’s designation, and we'll fight like hell to ensure it remains protected.
