getting into hockey has made me such a softie for sports books, & OH BOY is this one lovely. this book made me want to find my nearest baseball diamond & lie down in the grass & weep. and i know next to nothing about baseball. the love gene has for this game pours off of the page, & i found myself getting into the game & the why’s of the game just as much as gene did. & gene. oh, gene. he’s just this perfect little idiot, all wrapped up in not letting himself want anything for fear of disappointing himself or his friends, & who can’t relate to that? to learning that he can dream & want bigger and better things even if he thinks he can’t get them... god. he bundled everything up so tightly, it was so nice seeing luis come into the picture (also bundled up TIGHTLY) & slowly help gene unwind without even trying. they fit together so seamlessly & i ate it up from the minute luis appeared on the page. as much as i love gene, i might love luis more. he’s all things good & anxious in the w...
