Celebrating Harlem and Percy Sutton! đź’™
Â
Congrats to the over 5,200 runners who took part in the Percy Sutton Harlem 5K on Saturday! Shout-out to our Run For the Future participants for completing their first-ever 5K and to Striders who ran and walked this weekend in celebration of NYRR Striders’ 15-year anniversary.
Â
Taking place each year during Harlem Week, this race honors the late Percy Sutton, who served as Manhattan Borough President from 1966 to 1977 and worked tirelessly to promote Harlem’s economic development. He also played a crucial role in making the New York City Marathon a five-borough event!
In celebration of Percy Sutton and Harlem Week, artist Paul Deo drew inspiration from the vibrant city of Harlem to create a special race day mural in collaboration with Harlem Arts Association. It serves as a tribute to our diverse running community and Harlem’s rich cultural heritage.
