Happy #WorldPhotographyWeek! Did you know? Instant photography debuted at the 1947 OSA Winter Meeting. Polaroid co-founder Edwin Land was the first to invent inexpensive filters capable of polarizing light. His breakthrough came when he realized that instead of attempting to grow a large single crystal of a polarizing substance, he could manufacture a film with millions of micrometer-sized polarizing crystals that were coaxed into perfect alignment with each other. Stay tuned to our social media channels as we share amazing photographs from around the world, insights into photography history, how Optica Members play a role in its development, and the future of the field!
