Thought I was done? Psych.
This moment means more than words can capture. As someone who has seen firsthand the silent struggles so many carry, especially in Black and Brown communities, I knew I wanted to be part of the solution. This degree isn’t just about textbooks and theories; it’s about purpose. It’s about honoring the people I come from, the stories I carry, and the lives I hope to impact. I’ve spent the last few years learning not just how the mind works, but how healing begins—with listening, with empathy, with showing up. This is for the kid who grew up in a world where therapy was taboo. For the son of a veteran whose battles were fought on more than one front. For every young Black man who’s been told to “man up” instead of being asked, “Are you okay?” I hear you. I see you. And I’m taking this degree into the world to make sure others do too.
Sincerely,
Khalil Bucknor
