Only one lizard spends significant amounts of time at sea: the marine iguana. 🦎🌊
Found only in the Galápagos Islands, these incredible reptiles have adapted to dive into the sea and graze on marine algae. Their sharp claws help them grip rocks underwater while eating, while their flattened tail helps them swim through the waves.
Feeding in or near cold ocean water can be a challenge for lizards, since they cannot regulate their own body temperature. So after a swim, marine iguanas need to bask in the sun to warm back up! ☀️
