As “Ruth Asawa: Retrospective” enters its final weeks at SFMOMA, we asked Asawa’s grandson, Henry Weverka, what has stayed with him most throughout the five-year-long journey to bring this exhibition to life.
“It’s been an emotional experience for me to see so many people rally together around my grandmother’s legacy as an artist (many of whom have stories of personal interactions with her over the years) and allow us to share her work and life story with the world. I am so thankful to each and every person who has and continues to play a part in the Retrospective as it travels to MoMA and beyond, along with over a hundred thousand visitors who have come to see the show here in San Francisco.”
As this show continues its journey beyond San Francisco, we hope Ruth Asawa’s story stays with you—her commitment to art, to community, and to seeing beauty in the everyday.
Experience it before it closes on September 2.
