Tragic news: Two female Florida panther kittens were found dead on Sunday, apparently killed by a vehicle collision. Vehicle collisions are the primary cause of death for Florida panthers. With a population fewer than 200 individuals in the wild, every individual is important. Yet Florida development and road-building is only increasing as humans expand; already, numerous new towns are planned to be built inland from the state's southwest coast. But, these wildlife deaths can be reduced if state lawmakers invest in wildlife crossings like overpasses and underpasses that give panthers a better chance at survival. We're urgently working to improve wildlife connectivity and push for safe wildlife crossings in Florida, and elsewhere to protect species from vehicle collisions.
