While we celebrate the news of these latest pups, there's still concern that there's been no indication of pups from the remaining seven packs. This serves as a reminder that wolf recovery in the state is still in its infancy. However, “wolf recovery in California affirms that when adequate legal protections are in place, even a species that’s been gone for nearly 100 years can return," said Amaroq Weiss, a senior wolf advocate at the Center. As a reminder: Wolves are fully protected in California under the federal Endangered Species Act and under California’s own endangered species act.
