As people with cystic fibrosis live longer, they are reaching new milestones — including getting married. Joy Luedtke, an adult with CF who married her husband, Abe, this summer, knew making time for her treatments was an important part of her wedding day schedule.
“In our timeline, we incorporated a social hour that allowed me to slip away,” Joy said. “Abe and I spent a few minutes with our guests, and then it was off to do my treatments. This was a breath of fresh air for both of us. We were able to catch up and talk about some of our favorite parts of the day thus far. Without that time, I don’t think I would have gotten to experience this precious moment.”
Her advice to others in the CF community? “Taking a new step in life can be exhilarating. Jump in! Whether you are about to enter into marriage or are off on a new adventure, let yourself be present in each moment.”
