She is the recipient of the Leica Hall of Fame Award and known as the photographic memory of the Federal Republic of Germany: Barbara Klemm has captured nearly all key moments of German history in powerful black-and-white images.
Her photographs of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 reflect the atmosphere of those historic days like few others. “The fall of the Wall was the most important political event I was able to photograph during my many years at the FAZ,” Klemm recalls.
