Small vacant commercial structure. Previously burned. Boarded up. Fire in one room. Access is one of the biggest obstacles to overcome when attacking a board up fire. Ride along with Station 5 as they tackle these challenges. On August 6, 2025, at approximately 17:47, Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to 8700 Central Avenue SE for reports of a structure fire at an abandoned Pizza Hut. Multiple callers reported visible flames coming from the building. Engine 5 arrived on scene and reported a working fire, with flames and smoke showing on the exterior and coming from the interior. Multiple AFR units responded and aided in fire suppression activities. Crews also performed a primary search of the building to ensure there were no individuals in need of aid. The fire was brought under control within five minutes of Engine 5’s arrival. There were no individuals inside the structure upon arrival, and no injuries to AFR personnel or civilians were reported.
