A moment of transparency: In 2018 my Freshman college writing professor called the students in one by one to review a paper we had just written. Dorris White, a tall, and slender white woman with blonde hair in her 70s calls me into the classroom. With a smile on her face she says “sit, let’s talk about your work” I sit in the chair, and we review the paper. At the end of our review she puts the paper down and looks directly in my eyes and says “you need to let people know who you are” The words I needed to hear. I didn’t know how I was going to make that happen, I’m still figuring that out tbh, but I have an idea. That conversation spoke to all the parts of myself I was unsure of, it let me know that even though I questioned myself a lot, I have something to offer.
