This weekend I got to visit my favorite city to run the Saint Jude’s 10k race through downtown Memphis. Running alongside 22 thousand others felt emotional as it brought to mind how desolate downtown had been on all my runs there during the pandemic - I shed a tear as we turned onto Front street and the Mississippi came into view. It was 29 degrees, which I think significantly helped my time, and sunny.
Afterwards I got to see Cut Worms and Hurray For The Riff Raff and then later Spiritualized live score Egglestons Stranded In Canton in a theatre. It was my favorite day of 2024 and the kind of magical 24 hours that can only take place in Memphis, which continues to be an endless well of inspiration and joy in my life.
