There are three College Football coordinators I have my eye on this season who are close to earning a head coach job.
Garret Riley, OC, Clemson — His offense is dynamic and creative. He will call plays for the most experienced team in the country. If Clemson makes a deep playoff run, the younger brother of Lincoln Riley will have plenty of suitors.
Tim Banks, DC, Tennessee — He held opponents to 16.1 points per game last season. Not easy to do while working in harmony with Josh Heupel’s up-tempo attack. The Vols signed him to an extension, but Banks said being a head coach is still the main goal.
Brian Hartline, OC, Ohio State — He’s got the NFL playing experience, recruiting mojo, and will have spent nine years absorbing the winning Buckeye blueprint. His track record at developing elite talent is undeniable. Hartline will wait for the right fit, but it could sooner rather than later.
