Once the city’s industrial core and today a tech hub, the Strip District's population has more than tripled in the last 14 years as defunct warehouses morph into robotics centers and luxury high-rises.
But the pandemic took a toll, halting development citywide and stalling progress in the Strip for years afterward, according to local nonprofit Strip District Neighbors.
Now, it seems the Strip has emerged on the other side, barreling toward another growth spurt. Demand for its modern office space is rising. New businesses, from national retailers to local mainstays, are filling vacancies on busy streets.
And, critically, a housing boom is coming. More than 520 residential units are under construction as buildings on Smallman Street and Penn Avenue begin to take shape, Strip District Neighbors said. Thousands more are in the pipeline.
