NASA astronaut Christina Koch took this space selfie in the middle of a seven-hour spacewalk on Oct. 18, 2019. Koch and fellow astronaut Jessica Meir, leading NASA's first all-female spacewalk, repaired a power-charging component on the outside of the ISS and made other upgrades to the orbiting laboratory.
Koch (pronounced "Cook") was selected to become an astronaut in 2013. She helped develop instruments for NASA's Juno spacecraft and worked in Antarctica and Greenland before joining NASA's astronaut corps. Koch is currently training for NASA's Artemis II mission; along with crewmates Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Jeremy Hansen, Koch will lift off from NASAKennedy in early 2026 for a 10-day flight test around the Moon.
