Kara Walker's "Fortuna and the Immortality Garden (Machine)" just might have you finding and reflecting on something new each time you see it. Let's take a deep dive into this installation on Floor 1 of our museum. 1️⃣ Walker brought in 35,000 lbs. of Obsidian stone to be used in the space, specifically for its healing properties. 2️⃣ The artist covered the heads in papier-mâché to make them resemble hand puppets. 3️⃣ The "Bell Holder" and "Water Bearer" costumes have an image of the 1906  San Francisco Fires. #KaraWalker #SFMOMA #ArtMuseum
