This past Sunday, the U.S. Coast Guard rescued four sisters stranded on a rocky island in Minnesota’s Lake Superior after they lost their paddles while paddleboarding.
Newly released video captures the moments as a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew airlifted four young girls stranded on a rocky island near Silver Bay, Minnesota. The girls, ages 8 to 14, had been paddleboarding when they lost their paddles and were swept away by strong currents, leaving them trapped with no way to return to shore.
Local rescue teams were unable to reach them due to rough weather and terrain, prompting a specialized helicopter crew from Traverse City, Michigan, to intervene.
The video shows the crew lowering rescue swimmers and supplies to the girls, who were huddled together in swimsuits on the rock. After hours of coordination and waiting, the girls were hoisted to safety around 1 a.m. and reunited with their families.
