Meet Robin in our latest Senior Spotlight! Robin is a history major and English minor from Wilmette, Illinois, and La Crescenta, California. Her thesis is about natural history museums and taxidermy. Looking at the period from roughly 1850–1920, Robin is examining the interaction of colonization and empire in relation to the collection and display of animals at the Field Museum in Chicago. Specifically, she is looking at Carl Akeley’s time as chief taxidermist to develop an argument for the hidden history of the politicization, fetishization, and exploitation of large mammals at the museum. Robin’s thesis adviser is Professor of History and Humanities Mary Ashburn Miller, and her expertise in the history of science has provided Robin with a great foundation from which to build.
