Ever wonder how awesome Reed seniors are? Time for another Senior Spotlight! Zack (he/him) hails from Hong Kong and is an English major with a creative writing focus. His thesis is a reflection on loss, longing, and memory explored through the creation of a poetry anthology. As part of this process, Zack will also be writing a critical afterword reflecting upon his influences, themes, and poetic process. Throughout his thesis, Zack investigates the body as a racialized object, the Asian ideal of filial piety, and the process of forgiveness. In the process of writing his thesis, he has taken inspiration from contemporary Asian poets such as Chen Chen and David Mura. Zack’s thesis adviser is Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing Jae Yeun Choi, whose poetry classes and experience as another Asian American poet have been invaluable in the continued development of his work.
