Here is Toria Ellis ’19, Reed alum and Reactor Operations Manager, describing the work they do at Reed. “I’m currently the Reactor Operations Manager here at the research reactor. One of the things that makes Reed unique is that we have a nuclear reactor in the first place. We’re also the only reactor in the US run almost entirely by students. I am one of two full-time staff members and I directly supervise 30 to 40 students at any given time. “I came to Reed in 2015, took a tour of the reactor during Orientation week, and thought, ‘I really wanna work here.’ I joined the training program a few weeks later and then stayed on as Operations Manager after I graduated in 2019. “Reed has a very good training program, in large part because the students are so dedicated.
