This book is blowing my mind. Set in between WW1 and WW2, The First Bright Thing shows the life of circus folk. Historical fiction fantasy is not something I thought could work but holy cannoli does it! After WW1 many people gained "sparks," magical abilities that have both empowered and ostracized them. Rin, the main character with a traumatic past, has the spark to jump through time. She sees the deaths of many of her circus folk, in WW2. I am floored by the incredible beauty of this book. I have already cried several times. It's so powerful and handles trauma in a beautiful way. The voice actors this Audiobook are unbelievable.
