Gender critical group S3x Matters has filed a High Court claim against the City of London Corporation, which operates Hampstead Heath’s swimming ponds.
In a 23 August post to its website, the group wrote: "S3x Matters has filed its claim to the High Court seeking permission for a judicial review of the decision to continue to operate the men’s and women’s swimming ponds on Hampstead Heath on the basis of gender self-identification."
Following the Supreme Court ruling in April 2025, the City of London Corporation doubled down in its support for the trans community – putting up signs at the Kenwood Ladies’ Pond that read: “Those who identify as women are welcome to swim at the Kenwood Ladies’ Pond. The Ladies’ Pond is open to biological women and trans women with the protected characteristic of gender reassignment under the Equality Act 2010.”
The London ponds are a popular wild-swimming hotspot, with famous fans including singer Harry Styles and author Dolly Alderton.
