The Vivienne’s ex-husband David Ludford says they felt 'erased' after not being invited to the wake.
James Lee Williams, known globally as the first winner of RuPaul's Drag Race UK, passed away in January. Their funeral was held three weeks later on January 27th. According to Ludford, the wake held after the ceremony was a private affair from which he was excluded.
In a post on social media, Ludford spoke about the difficulty of the last few months, sharing his feelings of being cut off from the life he and Williams built together.
“I wasn’t invited to the wake, which cut deep!” he wrote. “I’ve felt like I’ve been erased from a life we built together. No explanation, no empathy, just cut off.”
Ludford also expressed the public humiliation of the situation, describing how he had to explain his absence to others who assumed he would be there.
“It was embarrassing when people told me they’d ‘see me at the wake’ after the funeral and I had to explain I wasn’t welcome.”
