Alicia Vikander has discussed starring in 'The Danish Girl'. The film has drawn criticism for casting a cis-male actor in the role of Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of gender reassignment surgery. Vikander plays the wife of Lili Elbe, played by Eddie Redmayne, in the 2015 biographical drama.Speaking about the film, Vikander said: “I’m the first one to say it already feels extremely dated, which I think is a good thing". Vikander, whose father is a psychiatrist who advises on gender confirmation surgery, continued: "At that time, it was a pivot in something that it made [the subject of transgender lives] at least discussed.
