All three Portland-area counties will open cooling centers Friday as temperatures in the area are expected to climb to around 100 degrees by mid-afternoon. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued an extreme heat warning for the greater Portland and Vancouver metro areas that is set to remain in effect until 5 a.m. Tuesday. The warning says to expect highs between 93 and 103 with overnight lows in the 60s, except in the Columbia River Gorge where overnight lows are only expected to sink to the 70s. The hottest days are expected to be Friday and Saturday.
