🚢 It was an angel of a fellow passenger who told me before we arrived in Norway, ā€œMake sure you’re up on deck when we sail into the fjords at dawn. Don’t stay in your room.ā€ And I will forever be in debt to that person. Because despite visiting Iceland and other places with fjords or fjord-like passages that take you deep into a landscape… it turns out there really is nothing like sailing into a Norwegian fjord early in the morning. The rock walls are higher, the waterfalls are more plentiful, the light more magical, the stillness more pronounced… maybe? It’s actually indescribable. After a full day at sea, coming from the Faroe Islands, we arrived via the winding Geirangerfjord to the village of Geiranger at dawn. Being on deck as we passed the Seven Sisters, the Suitor, and the Bridal Veil waterfalls was as thrilling as I was told it would be. For much of the slow sailing, I simply took it in.
