August 26th is International Dog Day. This annual celebration recognizes the unconditional love and loyalty that they bring to our lives. 🐕
One of the most famous examples of this is Greyfriars Bobby. The Skye Terrier gained fame in 19th-century Edinburgh for spending 14 years guarding the grave of his owner. A commemorative statue reads: “Greyfriars Bobby – died 14th January 1872 – aged 16 years – Let his loyalty and devotion be a lesson to us all”.
So many people have rubbed the Skye Terrier’s nose for luck that the city issued a plea for visitors to only touch the statue gently due to ongoing restoration costs.
