Bridge Building Challenge at Farm & Forge Academy
Our students put their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills to the test in a real-world engineering project!
With just 150 small and 50 large popsicle sticks, Elmer’s glue, and a few binder clips, teams had 3 hours to design and build their bridges, with another hour to refine after the glue set. The bridges were then tested across weight benches spaced 76 cm apart, starting with 4 lbs… and one held up to 35 lbs!
This wasn’t just about building…it was about learning:
•Math & Geometry → analyzing loads and structures
•History & Engineering → exploring the evolution of bridges
•Teamwork & Resilience → overcoming failures, adjusting designs, and encouraging one another
The day ended with reflection and self evals, where students shared what worked, what didn’t, and how they grew from the experience.
