Unlock the jazz potential of the half-diminished (minor 7♭5) chord. Most of the time, players treat the half-diminished chord as something mysterious or purely functional. But if you know how to phrase it, you can make it sound very bebop and melodic. Here’s the approach: 1. Start from the 11th (4th) of the chord. 2. From there, move down the half-diminished scale, but with a twist: - Use the scale that has a natural 2 instead of a flat 2. - Think of it as an Aeolian ♭5 mode. 3. Add chromatic enclosures and chromatic approaches to your phrasing. This creates a beautiful jazz vocabulary over minor 7♭5 chords, instead of just running patterns. This works perfectly over the iiø7 chord in a minor ii-V-i progression. So the next time you see it, try this sound and you’ll notice the bebop flavor it adds. #jazz #guitar #bass #bebop #blues #piano
