Two months after Black Cat Ice Cream closed its original Drake neighborhood location, the ice cream shop is back on the prowl with a new location. Owners Alex and Angela Carter closed the Drake location in June after four years with the intent to open a new spot in Des Moines. The brick building turned 100 last year and at one time housed a grocery store, a sandwich shop, and two barbecue restaurants over the years. Now the couple is ready to reveal a new location to join their other shop that opened in Valley Junction in April. Alex Carter is excited to bring his signature creativity and inclusive spirit to the new downtown Des Moines location, with plans to open this fall.
