Have you ever heard of Notte Di San Lorenzo? It’s one of Italy’s most magical summer traditions, but I never heard about it until we moved to Abruzzo! 🇮🇹
On August 10th every year, Italians gather under the starts to watch shooting stars they call ‘lacrime di San Lorenzo’ (the tears of St Lawrence).
What we’re watching is the Persoid Meteor Shower, but before astronomers identified the shower - European Christian’s believed the meteors were the St Lawrence’s tears falling from heaven in memory of his suffering (apparently he was killed in 258AD by being grilled alive over hot coals for giving riches of the church to the poor instead of the Emporer Valerian - poor guy 🥲)
