HAITI IN AUGUST 🇭🇹 Part I - Postcards of the Palais 📍 Palais Sans-Souci, Milot, Acul-du-Nord, Haiti Built under the reign of King Henri Christophe, through the strength and sacrifice of the people, with the vision of Baron Pompée Valentin de Vastey, royal secretary and architect of the palace. Its name is tied to Jean-Baptiste Sans Souci, the revolutionary leader killed here by Christophe, a reminder that the palace rose as both monument and message. While the 1842 earthquake left the palace never fully rebuilt, it holds an enduring presence of energy, dignity, and historical weight. Being at this site in the Nord Department as dyaspora, it was natural to reflect on the told and untold, the good and challenging stories of my people’s fight for independence through and after 1804, and on the unfinished vision of a fully free Haiti.
